EPISCOPAL FARMWORKER
MINISTRY
Responding to the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of farmworkers
The EFWM is a joint project of the Episcopal Diocese of East Carolina and the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina. Based in Sampson County, we serve agricultural workers (chiefly crop field workers and meat processing plant workers) and their families across Eastern rural NC. Since 1978 the EFWM has provided direct services, education, and other programs in support this vital community of people at the heart of our nation’s agricultural system. Here are some of our programs:
Summer Soccer Camp/Campamento de Futbol de Verano
On June 28th, we launched a six-week camp for young men and women at the Farm Workers Center. More than 30 young people signed up for two weekly practices and games on Saturdays each week. Players received soccer cleats, backpacks, balls, and shin guards. They will also receive lectures on nutrition and college opportunities.
Mattress Swap
Many farmworkers must sleep on beds with mattresses long overdue for replacement. The ministry buys them in bulk, delivers them to camps, and takes away the old ones.
Providing groceries, clothing, and other household necessities to hundreds of families each month.
Food Distribution
Visiting dozens of H-2A labor housing sites where temporary workers live for the growing season.
